During these first decades, students that (averaging 21 years of age) attended HCC had the option of taking only 4 courses: English, Physiology, Trigonometry, and Algebra. In September 1964, the doors opened to HCC's new campus in the city of Des Moines. In this year, there were over 130 full - time and 350 part - time instructors who greeted approximately 9,000 students. Today, HCC has roughly 15,000 students and offers over 100 programs of study. The students' attending here range from ages 16 to 80+, and the campus is filled with diversity.
